Students at Trewyn will go through a two-week boot camp as part of the ELITE youth program that has been adopted at the school this year.

Carl Cannon of the Peoria Park District and his ELITE team will be present at Trewyn School every day from the first to the last, teaching students appropriate classroom behaviors and ensuring an effective learning environment.

"We want the students to get the best education possible. Bring down misconduct. Bring down truancies," said Jay Hardin, who is one of the four ELITE team members working under Cannon.

The new school song at Trewyn doesn't actually have a melody. It is a chant that reminds students what is expected of them.

"Please. Thank you. Yes sir. No sir. Yes ma'am. No ma'am. Excuse me. I'm sorry. You're welcome. I can. I will be. Hope."

The boot camp will consist of 45-minute sessions at the beginning of each school day for two weeks. Elementary and middle schoolers will be in separate areas. Every day, the ELITE team will present the code of conduct in presentations that will recap the previous day's lessons and introduce new concepts that teachers will reinforce in their classrooms.
