EDUCATION

Knowledge is power. A common denominator in a prison population is illiteracy and ignorance. The cure is at the earliest of ages in the classroom. Even at the oldest of ages, it’s not too late to learn to turn it around. A person will never be finished learning. E.L.I.T.E. makes it cool to learn! Carl Cannon says, “Parents, don’t just have the title of Mom and Dad.  Being a parent means as your child grows, you grow with them. I was watching an Oprah show where the expert told Oprah, 'Take your hands off your kids.' Well, my expert (who was an inmate) said, 'The moment you take your hands off, you must understand that someone else is going to put their hands on them.' Yes, you want them to grow, but you want to grow with them all the way through high school and through college. If you stay with them, they’ll become you. The things that you do that they don't like aren't popular.   Parents, they’ll become you when they have kids of their own, because you are correcting them out of love and not out of power."
