This is a concept that was created in Chicago, IL that E.L.I.T.E. borrowed to help stop the violence in our community. It was started three years ago. If a homicide has taken place, E.L.I.T.E. reacts to it very quickly. There is a show of community support saying: “No More.” Since the inception of the prayer vigils (which consists of the faith-based community and corporate community), everyone is invited to lift up the families in prayer, lift the victims up in prayer, and also lift the community up morale-wise and spiritually.

The best way to stop crime in your neighborhood is to look right and to look left. E.L.I.T.E. teaches this at their prayer vigils. If something is out of place, let the police know. Know your neighbors.

Contact Carl Cannon for more information about prayer vigils at Peoria Park District Youth Outreach Dept. You can do this on your own and we’ll send you literature.
